First of all, we are all grateful to be healthy and happy and employed in a time of so much hardship. Our thoughts are with those who suffer from hardship and tragedy here and abroad.

Once again the Durands had a pretty straightforward year as our girls get older and Ross and Kristen stay at things at work! We enjoy entertaining neighbors on Friday nights and had a few short vacations in the summer. Sydney probably had the busiest year, but you can see all of our highlights below

S the percussionist Sydney - Sydney had a year of great transition, finishing sixth grade and starting middle school. She attended Outdoor Science School in January, was selected to speak at her 6th grade promotion, attended Arts X-Press in July and Arrowbear Music Camp in August.  She started seventh grade at Yorba Middle School in August, where she plays percussion in the Advanced Band and is in honors academic courses.

Sydney has also now had a year of art instruction at Mission Art Center where she is now working in oil paints and enjoys gifting her art to others.

She loves Monk, Psych, Mythbusters, and is currently working herself through the entire series of Murder, She Wrote on Netflix.

Sierra at 8 years old

Sierra
Sierra turned 9 this year and is now conquering 4th Grade! Reading is her favorite part of school and she especially loves comic format books like Captain Underpants.

Sierra continues to love playing with her friends and her toys and knows all the words to "We are never ever ever getting back together" by Taylor Swift.

Sierra started Tae Kwon Do last January and has advanced to her Orange belt. At her graduation she was excited to discover that she could break a board with her foot!

KristenKristen received the honor of becoming Vice President of Marketing for Office Properties at the Irvine company this year - proof that talent, intelligence and hard work can pay off!

When not engaged in work she loves to snuggle the girls, especially enjoys our neighborhood Friday nights, and loves playing "tower defense" games on the iPad (only Ross&Kristen trivia specialists will know that we fell in love playing "Space Gun" at the local Idyllwild pizza place :-)  )

Ross and WhaleRoss is still teaching at Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove and spending several weeks at Arrowbear Music Camp.
This year saw the release of "Goin' Back Out" - the first of three CDs he is releasing of songs based on lines from Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's a Gonna Fall," a labor of love Ross has had in mind since the late 80s (available at iTunes and amazon.com).
Ross continues to write and record music online for fun as well -  a summary of his output from this year can be found at his website.
